A hyper-realistic wildlife drawing isn’t created in a single sitting. It is built patiently, detail by detail, over hundreds of hours.
From Reference to Finished Artwork
I begin with a high-resolution reference photograph, studying the animal carefully before putting pencil to paper. I work through the image section by section, concentrating on getting each area right before moving forward.
01
OBSERVE
Study the reference and understand the structure, lighting and character of the animal
02
BUILD
Develop the drawing gradually, layer by layer, using graphite and charcoal.
03
REFINE
Work into the smallest details until the final image captures the animal’s character and presense.
Hundreds of Hours. One Drawing.
When watching YouTube videos of timelapse drawings, it’s easy to assume that it takes a view hours to do. But in actual fact, a drawing, like the ones I do takes between 2 to 3 months to complete.
